International Co-operation

Macedonian Bank for Development Promotion is a member of several international organizations which work in same or similar fields as MBDP: mainly they are development financial institutions and export credit agencies. These financial institutions provide economic development support, decrease risks, exchange information and have other ways of cooperation. MBDP tends to intensify the contacts and good relations with various international institutions, commercial banks, and insurance and re-insurance companies.

MBDP is a member of the following organizations:
1. The European Association of Public Banks. Association was founded in 2000, and represents the interests of the public owned financial institutions vis-à-vis legislative bodies of the EU.
2.
Prague Club, part of the Berne Union
The Berne Union was founded in 1934 with aim to actively facilitate cross-border trade and investments. The Berne Union has been made up of both public and private financial institutions from number of countries which by supporting the exports and foreign investments promote the international trade and investments in both developed and developing markets. In this regard they provide insurance to exporter’s receivables or to their banks against political and commercial risks. Berne Union members represent 10% of the total world trade.
The Prague Club was started on an initiative of the Berne Union and few other export credit agencies at the beginning of the 90’s. The Prague Club members are export credit agencies which by their size, the volume of support they contribute with to the world trade is smaller in comparison to the support provided by the Berne Union members. The Prague Club supports its members in developing their short- and long term export credit insurance and financing. The Prague Club members hold regular meetings designed for information exchange. The Macedonian Bank for Development Promotion is a member of the Prague Club since 2001.

MBDP has concluded cooperation agreement with the following export credit agencies and development banks: AOFI-Serbia, BAEZ-Bulgaria, HBOR-Croatia, SID-PKZ-Slovenia, IGA-Bosnia and Herzegovina, MEHIB-Hungary, KUKE-Poland, EGFI-Iran, EXIMGARANT-Belarus, SEP-Saudi Arabia, TURK EXIMBANK-Turkey, Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB), German Development Bank (KfW), etc.

MBDP cooperates with number of international institutions: OECD, World Bank, MIGA, IBRD, EIB, EBRD, CEB, etc.

The cooperation with the European Investment Bank. EIB is the financing institution of the European Union established in 1958 by  the Treaty of Rome, participating side-by-side with local financial institutions in the financing of investment programmes and projects which form part of the objectives of the European Union and the Republic of Macedonia.
The EIB mission is to help implement the European Union’s policy objectives  by financing sound business projects.  Besides encouraging projects in the member countries, one of the main activities is investment financing in the future EU members and the  partner countries which have positive impact on strengthening the european integration process. In that direction is the cooperation between the EIB and MBDP. MBDP has intensified its cooperation with EIB on 26 June 2009 when the Finance Contract for SME and Priority Lending (industrial investments in the fields of economy, energy and environmental protection) in amount of EUR 100.000.000 was signed. The cooperation has continued on 14 October 2011 by signing the Contract for realization of the second phase of this credit line for SME and Priority Projects in the fields of economy, energy and environmental protection in an amount of EUR 50.000.000. On 10 July 2012 the new Contract was signed in amount of EUR 100.000.000 which marked the beginning of the realization of the third phase of the EIB credit line. Further cooperation resulted in signing the Contract of a IV phase on 31 December 2013 in amount of new EUR 1000.000.000. New Contract for realization of the fifth phase of the EIB credit line was signed on 11.09.2018 in amount of EUR 100.000.000.
MBDP extends the EIB credit funds in cooperation with the commercial banks through the existing credit programmes, for which more detailed information one can obtain at the commercial bank or directly at MBDP. The Intermediary banks taking part in the EIB credit line disburse credit funds which are by minimum of 50 bps more favourable than the interest rate that banks would charge from the end beneficiaries without the EIB participation. We believe that the cooperation between MBDP and EIB during the accession of Macedonia to the EU will directly contribute to keeping the existing jobs and increasing the number of employees, increasing the exports as well as growth of the Macedonian economy.
